A gourmet ice cream store thief bashed a cashier in the head with a rock during a robbery in the East Village — in an assault caught on video, police said Friday.
The violent robbery happened around 8 p.m. on Jan. 20, when the man walked into Van Leeuwen Ice Cream at 432 3rd Ave. and demanded money, according to cops.
The new surveillance clip, released by cops, shows the robber pulling a rock from his bag, winding up and cracking the 23-year-old working the counter in the head.
It was unclear what the rock-wielding bandit grabbed from the storage room before running off, cops said.
The female cashier was treated for a concussion at NYU Medical Center, cops said.
Police believe the same bandit was connected to three other robberies in Manhattan over the last month.
Two days earlier, on Jan 18, the bandit robbed another Manhattan ice cream shop — Kaylee’s Creamery at 115 E. 27th Street — around 8 p.m. when he made off with $400, according to police.
In two other incidents, the bandit stole woman’s purses from inside Midtown businesses on Jan. 7 and Dec. 27, according to cops.
