Nolan Arenado appears headed to the Cardinals.
A deal is place that would send the Rockies star third baseman to St. Louis but is not yet finalized, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed Friday night. The Athletic was first to report the expected trade.
It is not a done deal because significant dollars would be on the move, Arenado has a no-trade clause and an opted out after the season so approval from MLB and the union is stilled needed, according to Sherman. The Cardinals prospects potentially in the deal are Luken Baker, Austin Gomber and Jhon Torres.
The 29-year-old Arenado is scheduled to make $35 million this season. He signed an eight-year, $260 million contract with the Rockies in 2019. The eight-time Gold Glove winner hit .253 with eight homers in the abbreviated 2020 season that ended with him deal with a left shoulder bone bruise
