Chilling video captured rescuers desperately trying to bust the windshield of a Mexican Air Force jet that crashed at takeoff, killing at least six military personnel, according to reports.
The Learjet 45 slammed into the ground after taking off about 9:45 a.m. Sunday from El Lencero Airport in Emiliano Zapata, near the city of Xalapa in Veracruz state, reported Reuters, which cited the defense secretariat.
Dramatic footage shows rescue personnel trying to break the windshield of the burning aircraft as it spews flames and thick smoke.
The six victims have not been identified, and the military will carry out an investigation, the ministry added.
It was unclear how many people were aboard the doomed flight.
“We express our deepest condolences to our comrades in arms,” the secretariat said, according to Agence France-Presse.
